Nape, as used in locksmithing

The nape of a doorkey is the small stub between the head and the teeth. It typically drops from the head to the teeth at a right angle, but may be a bit bulbous.

The nape is the starting point for the bitting of the teeth when a locksmith is cutting a new key from a keyblank.
