Taking place at 3 p.m. on
Memorial Day, Americans are asked to pause for exactly one minute and listen to "
Taps" being played on
radio and
TV stations and remember people who have died in service to their country.
Officially, this moment was called for after a group of children visiting Lafayette Park in Washington, DC answered the question of what Memorial Day was with "That's the day the pools open!"
There have been one-minute moments since 1997, which people who have died in service to the United States seem to have appreciated.
