These were the precursor to the Navy SEALs. Formed in 1943, they were the swimmers in WWII who cleared paths for landing craft. They are well known for their work at Utah and Omaha beaches in Normandy and in Southern France. On the Pacific, they are known as the Underwater Demolition Teams(UDT). The UDTs were active through the Vietnam War.
