Needles is a relatively small city located near the Colorado River in California and was the boyhood home of Charles M. Schulz. It was named after the sharp, needle-like mountains that provide part of the city's desert backdrop and founded in 1883 when the railroad came through the area. Needles was also a city which passed Route 66.
