Originally Maurice Starr's nouveau take on The Jackson Five, in the 80s age of Arthur Baker, and "Candy Girl" evoked synth-popped images of little Michael and the J5. Five Boston kids, who grew beyond the novelty and survived as a half-decent singing group (unlike Starr's NKOTB). Some have done quite well in their post-svengali careers (Bobby "No such thing as bad publicity" Brown and Late Addition Johnny Gill), and Bell Biv Devoe even did a svengali turn of their own.
