A group of
Bantu-speaking people in
South Africa and nearby, including the
Xhosa,
Zulu,
Swazi, and
Ndebele nations: these nations are historically recent developments (1800 onward, roughly) from bands who moved around in southern Africa.
The Nguni languages are the corresponding languages, also known as isiXhosa, isiZulu, siSwati, and siNdebele. They are part of the southernmost branch of the Bantu family.
