Nijmegen is one of the largest cities in Holland, and possible the oldest large city too, since it was founded around 50 BC
The city was originally called 'Noviomagum' which in Dutch means 'nieuw megen' ('new megen'), which later got abbreviated to 'Nijmegen' ('Nij' is 6th century Dutch for 'new')
