Nirguna is one of the two types of meditation taught in yoga (and Buddhism). It is meditation focused on the Absolute. Only through Nirguna is a one able to achieve Nirvana. Through detachment from the five senses and a still mind, one can maintain focus on something abstract. These abilities can be achieved by practicing Saguna, meditation with form. Nirguna is considered to be formless or objectless meditation. Two mantras to be used during Nirguna are Om (ohm), the root of all sounds and letters, and Soham (soh-hum) which means "I am That" or at one with with the Absolute.

"The purpose of life is to fix the mind on the Absolute"
-Swami Vishnu-devananda
