The toys she loved as a child often gave out
long before she stopped caring for them;
threadbare, missing eyes or a limb

She would hold onto them tightly
even when they had looked less like a bear or a doll and
more like cleaning rags.

If they could talk the toys would say
they were not treated badly but were instead
loved too much.
