Also, the original :c), a large-ish, reasonably unremarkable market town in the east midlands of England, approximately halfway between London and Birmingham. The county in which it resides, Northamptonshire, is supposedly the `rose of the shires'.

Traditionally known as a producer of footwear hence the nickname for the town's football club - `cobblers' - and the famous-ish shoe museum. The original source of Doc Marten boots. Rumoured to have been one of the original choices of site by the guys who set up Cambridge University.

Sadly not as interesting as the American version above but it was where I grew up so I felt I ought to mention/confess it...
