Veterans Day

Remembrance Day

As I was driving to work this morning I couldn't help but wonder why we commemorate this day when wars still rage all around us. As the 20th century progressed it became clear that we learned nothing from The Great War. Almost a decade into the 21st century and we're still killing each other with abandon. It is said that that war, World War I, still has not been surpassed on the meter of mass killing in one war. I find that difficult to believe.

According to icasualties.org there have been 4,193 US deaths, 176 UK deaths, and 138 dead from 'other' nations during the war in Iraq. US wounded totals 30,634.

If you see a veteran, say thank you. Buy a poppy. It's not enough but I suppose it's better than nothing.
