Where it all ends in a blinding flash. Mutually Assured Destruction by the United States and the Soviet Union by nuclear weapons was (and perhaps still is) a very real threat that came close to occuring on several occasions during the Cold War, notably during the Cuban Missile Crisis, and at least once during the 80s as a false alarm.
