Mankind is a solution
in search of a problem.
We the sapient species have crept inside
our mothering earth
in search of hope
and found instead a mirror.
If this is what it is,
to be civilized,
to be dissatisfied - the envy
of diamonds
and those that have them
If this is what it is,
to war for want of a stone,
to make much of the possession of chance,
to find love and metaphors in dust,
then we are starving in our comforts
and dour in our dreams.
