Anglo-Irish author of all kinds of literature, most well known for the nostalgic poem The Deserted Village, the comedy play She Stoops To Conquer, and novel The Vicar of Wakefield, but he also wrote travel essays, histories, biographies, and children's stories. His prose tends to be less sentimental than his poetry. He died of an illness of some kind (I can't find a source that says exactly what) and Samuel Johnson wrote the inscription on his gravestone, which includes the tribute "Nullum quod tetigit non ornavit" (He touched nothing that he did not adorn).
