A saxophonist, but more famous as a composer/arranger. His Blues and the Abstract Truth (featuring Eric Dolphy) included "Stolen Moments", one of his more famous jazz tunes. He went into TV and film writing and became an in-demand pen, with gigs like Lady Sings the Blues, Last Tango in Paris, episodes of Ironside, and the theme for The Six Million Dollar Man. His pop arranger credits include James Brown, The Temptations, The Supremes, and Ringo Starr.
