A largely Islamic people indigenous to Ethiopia. They are the largest ethnic group in northeast Africa, spread throughout modern day Ethiopia, Kenya, and the coast of the Indian Ocean. The early history of these people was a migratory one, often glorifying war and periodic raids on surrounding peoples. Their culture is noted for their unique "gada" system, classification of society based on age groups. The Oromo are currently fighting a low intensity war with Ethiopia for independence.
