King of Northumbria (788-790)
Osred came to the throne after the death of his uncle Aelfwald in 788.
However a previous king, Aethelred, who himself had been deposed in a coup by Aelfwald in 779, now seized the opportunity to reclaim the throne and forced Osred to flee to the relative safety of the Isle of Man.
Osred perhaps rather foolishly returned to Northumbria in 792, (presumably with the intention of challenging Aethelred for the throne) only to be captured and beheaded at Maryport in Cumbria.
