The Ostrich approach to problem solving describes two competing methodologies for dealing with problems that arise in modern-day life. Both can be quite useful, depending upon the context of the situation:

  • Ignore the problem, rather than attempting to solve it--this is analogous to how an Ostrich is said to deal with fear (by sticking its head in the sand so it can no longer see its attacker).

Or...

  • Stick your head in the sand (or cover your eyes appropriately) in the hopes that a large, African, flightless bird will run by and fix your problem for you.
Deciding which technique to use in response to a given situation is left as an exercise for the reader.
