Ottumwa, Iowa is a medium-sized town (population of approximately 25,000) in Wapello County (a district of south-eastern Iowa).

Ottumwa sits on the Des Moines river. In fact, the word Ottumwa is of Sac Indian origin and means "land of rippling waters" (although it can also be translated as "place of perseverance").

Ottumwa is probably most known as the home of the fictional character Radar O'Reilly from the television program M*A*S*H. Additionally, Ottumwa is the birthplace of Tom Arnold and the home of Stephen Blumberg.

Recently, the town has tried to market itself as the "city of bridges". This new motto refers to the three bridges that connect the two sections of the city across the river.
