A small village on the Mississippi River (not to be confused with the much larger
Mississippi River) in Eastern Ontario, about a half hour drive west of
Ottawa. Since 1998 it is has been a part of the larger town of Mississippi Mills.
For a town of only two thousand people (1996 Census data) it has many notable characteristics, including its own ski hill (Mount Pakenham), golf course (Pakenham Highlands) and the only five-span stone bridge in North America.
Mississippi Mills also consists of the neighboring town of Almonte where
James Naismith, inventor of
basketball, was born.
Pakenham is in Lanark County, which is famous for its
maple syrup.
Pakenham is also the birthplace of this node's author. ;)
