The word 'papoose' can also mean a child carrier. This is because many emulate the styles of the North American cradles (see article above). Some are simple slings and others are similar to a rucksack; unlike rucksacks, papooses can be worn on either the front or the back.

These are very popular in the United Kingdom and the USA at the moment, although they are seldom called papooses.
