1890-1976 American Photographer and filmmaker.
He was born in New York City. He met Alfred Stieglitz while still in school. In 1907 he was exposed both to the new abstract painting and sculpture exhibited by Stieglitz at the Gallery 291 - works by artists such as Pablo Picasso, Georges Braque, and Constantin Brancusi.
During 1915-1917, Stieglitz and Strand were in close contact. Collaborated with Charles Sheeler on the short film Mannahatta.

In 1936, along with Berenice Abbott, launched a group called the Photo League in New York.
Also worked in Mexico and gathered images for his work The Mexican Portofolio. Traveled throughout France, Italy, Egypt.
Paul was the subject of an entire issue of Camera Work magazine.
In 1945 there was a full scale retrospective of his work at the Museum of Modern Art in Manhattan.
