The dominant materialist theory in the Philosophy of Mind. It claims all mental phenonemena, events or states are reducible to physical ones. Typically brain states.

It is increasingly regarded as an insufficient theory because it fails to explain experiences of quality (Qualia), the 'aboutness' of minds (Intentionality) and the apparently irreducible nature of Consciousness and Self themselves.
