The Piazza di Spagna is an excellent example of Baroque architecture in Rome, and features the Spanish Steps and the Barcaccia fountain. The Spanish Steps were built between 1721 and 1725 in order to connect the Piazza della Trinità with the Piazza di Spagna. The Piazza and the Steps have remained popular with tourists over the centuries. For years the Piazza was home to Rome’s hotel district. Poet John Keats spent his last days in a near-by house, which is now the now the Keats-Shelley Memorial.
