Italian Renaissance architect and sculptor, 1435-1515. Lombardo, from 1498 until the year of his death, was master mason at the Doge's Palace in Venice.

His most famous work is Dante's tomb at Ravenna, but he is also known for the following projects:

Tombs:

  • Doge Nicolo Marcello (Basillica di San Giovanni e Paolo, Venice)
  • Doge Pietro Mocenigo (Basilica di Santi Giovanni e Paolo, Venice)
  • Bishop Giovanni Zanetti (the Cathedral of Treviso)

Buildings:

  • The Palazzo Vendramin-Calergi, Venice
  • Church of Santa Maria dei Miracoli, Venice
  • Scuola Grande di San Marco, Venice (rebuilt on his design after a major fire in 1485)

He completed much of his work with the help of his sons, Tullio and Antonio Lombardo (both well-known sculptors in their own right).
