A town in the southwest corner of Minnesota; population 4,280 (2000 Census). Pipestone is the county seat of Pipestone county. Pipestone is the site of Fort Pipestone and the Pipestone National Monument. The monument plays host to the annual Song of Hiawatha pagent performed by the local population. The monument is also one of the few places where pipestone can be mined.
