Located between
Quebec City and the
St. Lawrence River in
Canada, the Plains are notable for being the site of the final North American battle of the
Seven Years War/
French and Indian War in 1759 that resulted in
France ceding
New France to the
British.
After the conquest, the area came under military use. The Martello Towers on the plains were later built by the British to protect against an American invasion. More recently, the battlefields have been redeveloped as a historic park.
The area is named for an Abraham Martin, farmer and sailor, who settled in the area.
