A practice chanter is a combination of a
blowstick and
bagpipe chanter used to practice the fingerings without deafening yourself and neighbours.
The chanter portion of the practice chanter is not the same as a pipe chanter. The holes are smaller and the bore is narrower to produce a quieter tone. A practice chanter is also often smaller than a pipe chanter although it is possible to purchase full size practice chanters.
