Prehistoric artists painted
animals they
hunted on the
cave walls.
These
animals included
Horses,
Deer, and
Oxen ( to name a few ).
They drew these animals with red, yellow, and brown pigments. These were made from ground-up earth and rocks. These pigment powders were sometimes mixed with oils or grease.
The artists spread their pigments on the cave wall, with leaves or wads of fur. Sometimes they even blew them down bone tubes.
These prehistoric artists would often paint huge areas of rock, picturing animals in their herds.
Some prehistoric paintings have been found of people hunting these animals.
Not many of these prehistoric rock paintings still exist, but rare few have been found on cave walls, that have lasted for thousands of years.
