It's a weird phenomena. "Proximity of an engineer," that's what the engineer at my station would always say when he fixed something by just walking in the room. I'd call for an engineer when I couldn't get some piece of equipment to work, but by the time they came by, rigidly right as they walked in, it would start working again.

This happened a few times. So one day the engineer just started to say, "Must be the proximity of an engineer," and then he'd walk away chuckling to himself. Now he wouldn't have a job if people like me couldn't get things to work all the time, but just between me and you, I think he sabotages random things and has a clicker device so that when he walks into the room and he can click his button, say "Proximity of an engineer," laugh and walk away.
