I was walking in the mall the other day and I saw a sign. It was standing prominently in the window of some preppy “cool” store (I don’t remember the name) that all of the popular girls shop at. …I saw a sign, it was a picture of a girl wearing all the latest ‘hip’ clothing. It had a caption in bright pink letters on a blue sky background:

I am me.

An oxymoron if there ever was one. There was a girl, conforming, however claiming she had individuality in the way she dressed.

Conformity is not cool. I know this is a bold statement, but bear with me. Conformity is not cool. Now, I know today’s society defines cool as being ‘in’ and popular. This really isn’t true. I suppose you’re thinking “well, I guess you’re gonna tell me what ‘cool’ is now aren’t you?”. No. That is exactly what I’m not gonna do. Be cool by yourself. You’ll figure out a way. Conformity is the work of the devil.
