Ralph Abernathy was Martin Luther King, Jr.'s chief aide and advisor. He also helped found the Southern Christian Leadership Conference with Dr. King and later became it's president after MLK's assassination.

He was also a major contributer to the organization of the Montgomery Bus Boycott.

Abernathy lead the Southern Christian Leadership Conference until 1977 when he retired and became the pastor of a Baptist church in Atlanta.
