A Range Safety Package is, in Western rocketry and spacecraft parlance, an explosive device or other destruct mechanism that is installed into rockets or vehicles being launched. It is there so that in the event of an imminent deviation from course and malfunction (crash) the Range Safety Officer can, at his discretion or by order of the launch director, destroy the vehicle in flight.
