According to Z Magazine, Robert McChesney is one of "the most important critics of the global media scene." He is an Associate Professor of Journalism and Mass Communication at the University of Wisconsin Madison.

He is the author of several books, including Telecommunications, Mass Media and Democracy: The Battle for the Control of U.S. Broadcasting, 1928-1935 (1993), and Corporate Media and the Threat to Democracy (1997). He also co-authored the book The Global Media: The New Missionaries of Corporate Capitalism with Edward Herman.
