Rosco P. Coltrane

The sheriff in the fabulous TV series the Dukes of Hazzard. Played by James Best, who actually learned acting by playing in Shakespeare. Boss of "Enos Straitt". Had this delightful little bloodhound, now what was his name? Oh yea, Flash. Heh. His sister Lu Lu was Boss Hogg's girlfriend.

A certifiable idiot of a character. Never quite figured out (no matter how many times it happened) that the Duke Boys in the General Lee would invariably make the jump across the creek, while he in his police car would simply end up all wet.

Seemed to often times talk as if there were a large object embedded up his, uh, er, cough, ahem... Whenever he mentioned his own name, or that of his dog Flash, it seemed as if some hidden, off camera person would choose that moment to twist and prod said object.
