In
April 1999, amidst a flurry of worrying and unsettling developments,
SGI decided to
strike back.
It changed its name...
...to SGI!
When the dust cleared, it turned out that SGI had not been called SGI all these years, but just "Silicon Graphics (International)"; they were now to be called SGI, which (it was dramatically revealed) really stood for "Servers, Graphics and Internet" (or was it Supercomputers??).
The term Silicon Graphics was forgotten, discarded, banned, passé, destroyed and consigned to the dustbin of history. At long last, SGI became SGI.
