The primary Hindu ancestor, Savitri was impregnated by Brahma early in creation. She gestated for a century, then began to give birth. From her womb poured music and poetry, the years, the months, and the days, the four ages of creation, and innumerable other offspring, including death.

Also called Sata-Rupa ("hundred-shaped"), she is said to have been the first woman, daughter of Brahma and wife of the first man.
