Name of a pass in central Japan. On October 20th 1600,
it became the site of a large battle between Ieyasu Tokugawa and Ishida Mitsunari who had both been members of a council that ruled the country in place of the child heir of the previous ruler. The battle became a turning point in Japanese history because the victory of Tokugawa marked the beginning of the Edo period, in which the Tokugawa family ruled over all of Japan for more than 250 years.
