Selling or renting out your child is common in some third-world nations. Often children on sale are under 10 years of age, male and female. Their parents or relatives offer them as prostitutes or servants (whom may eventually become prostitutes) to foreigners and passerbys for little money. Child molesters consider certain third-world nations pleasure domes for this reason.

In pre-World War II China, some impoverished families gave their daughters up to the marketplace through a middleman. The middleman would entrust them to teachers who would show them how to cook, sew, and clean. Once they were ready for "saleability", the middleman would train them in a little gimmick like singing a cute song which they performed to attract customers in the marketplace.
