Selma (female)
The norwegian name Selma comes from the celtic language, and has the meaning "fair, pure". A less likely explanation is that it stems from the old german name Anshelm which is based on Ansi (god) and Helma (helmet), meaning "protected by the gods". Selma Lagerlöf, 1858 - 1940. In Norway, Selma shares her name day with Samuel on February 21st.
