While a friend and I were at lunch today in a local Sports Bar the Star Spangled Banner was played before the Seahawks game. In a display of patriotic fervor many in the crowd applauded during the Anthem. I've been there before when the crowd has NOT done so, and I believe their excess patriotism has been stirred up by Kaepernick's recent actions.
Don't get me wrong: I am patriotic, respect our flag (and BTW: one is actually NOT supposed to applaud during the anthem), and have always gotten a little teary-eyed when the Star Spangled Banner was played ... but like many people I was unaware of the third verse.
Which is why I found this article interesting.
