fans rather than
academics or
critics. Synopses of over 200 films, thus a good guide to delving into the local
video store. Serious
aficionados will probably not find anything here they didn't know, but if you've seen a couple of non-
Hollywood John Woo movies and are intrigued, this is a good book to pick up. As indicated, it's not going to be covering the entire range of
Hong Kong film, just things by people like
Tsui Hark and
John Woo--no
chick flicks, few
historical epics, etc. Just don't get the idea that's all there is
to HK and
Chinese film.
