Shamus Culhane isn't as recognizable as, say,
Chuck Jones (
Warner Brothers Looney Tunes/Merry Melodies), or even
Jay Ward (
Rocky and Bullwinkle) but he has a history of surfing just below this
layer of
popular culture. His work is modern and stylish, borrowing from his peers but maintaining a feeling of his own.
Gerald McBoing is merely one example that lives on, something you are likely to find on the
Cartoon Network.
His book
Talking Animals and Other People is extremely rare and hard to find outside of libraries, but it has a different take on the industry than other notable "books by animators" such as
Chuck Amuck.
