A word derived from the Hebrew shagah, "to stagger or reel drunkenly".
A shiggaion (pl. shigionoth) is a lyrical poem composed under the influence of strong emotion, as if intoxicated thereby; a dithyrambic ode. The word occurs in the title of Psalm 7 and (in the plural form) in Habakkuk 3:1.
