The Three S's of male grooming, usually the first thing that a man does upon a) taking residence in a hotel room, b) getting ready to go somewhere and see someone, or c) ending a multi-day adventure of one kind or another (before getting into bed). The sequence is key: the warm water of the shower removes lingering fecal matter and prepares the beard for removal. Originally the Four S's: the last was a shoeshine.
Oddly enough, there isn't a female equivalent....
