Short block

A short block is an automotive engine block that comes partially assembled from the manufacturer or rebuilder.
It consists of the block with:

• main bearings and bearing caps
• crankshaft
• pistons with rings
• connecting rods and rod bearings
• camshaft with cam bearings
• timing chain and gearset

Sometimes the oil pump is included, but not the engine head, valve train, electrics or any covers
