Founded in 1892 by 182 charter members. The first
president of the Sierra Club was John Muir, a
writer and one of
America's most
famous naturalists and
conservationists. The Sierra Club is
dedicated to preserving and protecting the
Earth's natural wonders and resources. Current programs include the fight to protect streams,
wetlands, and wilderness from sprawling urban
development, preserve and protect wild forests from such things as commercial
logging, and help stop the
global warming epidemic.
