An simple but neat idea created by a friend of mine (I'm sure lots of people have had the idea, he was just the one closest to me at the time). Basically, sign your name in the inside cover of a book and pass it on with instructions that the recipient do the same. Aside from the obvious good of spreading generosity and books, there is always the hope that some day someone will unwittingly lend the book back to you, this time with the inside cover full of names.

Generally, there seems to be an unwritten imperative that one do this with good books, books that everyone should read. I've done this or want to do this with books like The Catcher in the Rye, Ender's Game, The Plague, Magister Ludi aka The Glass Bead Game, Snow Crash, Lord of the Rings, The Hitchhikers' Guide to the Galaxy, etc.
