Silicon Forest

ANother name for Portland, OR following in the Silicon Valley, Silicon Alley theme and exploiting Portlands vast expanses of uncut timber. Actually appropriate when you think of the number of tech companies here, Tektronix, Fujitsu, Epson, NEC, and many others. One of the Authors of Programming Perl and Learning Perl lives here (I met him at the wierdest place!).

I have heard some references to Seattle as the silicon forest. However I have heard the Portland area (specifically the Washington County (Beaverton, Hillsboro) and Wilsonville areas, but other places too) referred to as the silicon forest ever since my younger, BBS-er days, so I feel confident in saying that Seattlites should come up with a different name!
