Still life may be more conducive to oils
bright colors, muted textures

Ink, though more precise,
Is a series of incisions
Cold blooded

Whereas charcoal,
Smooth imperfection,
Spreads across the paper in waves
Capturing shadows and ripples

Their ambiguity is the preferred medium
for our bodies

All the subtle textures of the human figure:
The hilly spine,
Rolling muscles,
flowing mane, all
in blurred black and grey

Every shaded part of a body is in motion, even at rest
